Object Narrative

Beneath the skin of every construction site lies an ancient tension—between order and improvisation, structure and breath, isolation and connection. According to legend, iron-bound beings known as Glückskrabbler dwell in the subsoil, dormant until the first spade disrupts the crust. Drawn by the resonance of steel and stone, they rise under cover of night, their filamentous limbs combing the raw excavation for traces of human intent: dreams etched into blueprints, murmurs of workers, the tremble of heavy machines. From these intangible fragments, they weave protective sigils—fragile, unseen networks that settle like a quiet blessing upon the foundation.

Yet in an age where boundaries harden—both materially and ideologically—these creatures do more than guard. They roam.

Liberated from their subterranean duties, they become Site Crawlers: manifestations of Mobile Resistance. Twisted from rebars meant to reinforce concrete permanence, these forms instead embrace motion, fragility, and multiplicity. Their bodies arc and balance on three or more contact points, always grounded, yet never fixed—evoking the quiet resilience of communities forged from instability and change.

Each sculpture bears the memory of a place, compressed into steel: the shimmer of intention, the latent promise of shelter, the resistance to division. Caught before vanishing into the concrete pour, a Crawler carries forward the genius loci—the spirit of the site—into new contexts. It is both talisman and protest, blessing and beacon.

Whether perched on a plinth or nested in a corner of the public realm, each Site Crawler urges us to reimagine the frameworks that govern us. Not as rigid cages, but as permeable traces of presence, movement, and mutual care.

Objektgeschichte

Unter jeder Baustelle liegt eine verborgene Spannung – zwischen Ordnung und Improvisation, Struktur und Atem, Abgrenzung und Verbundenheit. Einer alten Legende zufolge schlummern tief im Erdreich eisenharte Baugeister: Glückskrabbler, die erst erwachen, wenn der erste Spaten die Kruste aufbricht. Vom metallischen Klang angelockt, steigen sie nachts empor, tasten mit ihren filigranen Gliedmaßen die frische Grube ab und sammeln, was an diesem Ort in der Luft liegt: Skizzen-Träume, Maschinenflimmern, das leise Murmeln der Bauleute. Aus diesen flüchtigen Fragmenten weben sie einen Schutzzauber – ein unsichtbares Netz, das sich über das Fundament legt wie ein Versprechen.

Doch in einer Zeit, in der sich Grenzen verhärten – baulich wie gesellschaftlich – verändert sich ihre Rolle. Die Krabbler werden zu Baukrabblern: zu Verkörperungen einer mobilen Widerständigkeit. Geformt aus jenen Stahlstäben, die einst zur Versteifung gedacht waren, brechen sie aus ihrer Bestimmung aus. Statt sich im Beton zu verlieren, strecken sie sich in offenen Formen durch den Raum – kriechend, tastend, balancierend auf mehreren Punkten. Sie stehen für das, was Gemeinschaft im Kern ausmacht: ein fragiles Gleichgewicht, das aus Vielstimmigkeit entsteht.

Jede Skulptur trägt das Gedächtnis eines Ortes in sich, verdichtet im Metall: die Ahnung eines Anfangs, die Kraft der Absicht, der Widerstand gegen Vereinzelung. Wird ein Krabbler behutsam geborgen, ehe der Beton ihn verschlingt, so bleibt sein Zauber erhalten – als Talisman, als Zeuge, als stilles Artefakt.

Ob auf einem Sockel oder in einer städtischen Nische – jeder Baukrabbler lädt uns ein, die uns umgebenden Strukturen neu zu denken. Nicht als starre Systeme, sondern als durchlässige Spuren von Anwesenheit, Bewegung und gegenseitiger Fürsorge.
